ImpressionDoc prints and binds dissertations, theses and reports for students and professionals: A4 printing in black & white or colour, perfect binding with a hardboard cover, shipping across France with tracking. The store was built from scratch on PrestaShop 9, with a custom theme and an in-house module that replaces the usual product page with a real configurator.
The challenge: this is not an item sitting in stock, but a document the customer brings along. The price depends on the number of pages in their PDF, the printing mode and the thickness of the spine — and it had to appear instantly, with no quote and no account to create.
My role
- Building the store on PrestaShop 9 with a custom theme: an in-house component system and a layout the client can edit from the back office through PrettyBlocks.
- Developing a print configurator module: PDF upload, automatic server-side page count, black & white or colour, single- or double-sided, cover colour, and a live price.
- A tiered pricing grid managed from the back office, plus a maximum page count derived from the printing mode: a document too thick to be bound is blocked before payment, with a clear message.
- Shipping costs computed from the real weight (sheets, binding and packaging) instead of a flat rate, and a production sheet in the back office: summary, parcel weight and dimensions for despatch.
- A checkout with no account creation, secure card payment, and the customer's PDF available from their order as well as from the back office.
- GDPR compliance: consent banner, no tracker loaded before the visitor chooses (analytics, emailing), and legal pages written.
- A read-only API opened to automate order tracking on the client's side.
- A responsive interface verified by measurement from 320 to 1920 px, with optimised load times.
